Senior Geo-environmental Engineer

Summary

Our client is a wholly independent, employee-owned company with 10,000 staff, turnover of £600 million and work in 100 countries for public and private sector customers world-wide.

The North West Division is centred in Manchester and covers Cheshire, Lancashire, North Wales, Isle of Man and the areas controlled by the residuary bodies of Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

The division is able to offer a wide range of engineering disciplines with specialist expertise in transportation (including light and heavy rail), structures, urban regeneration, contaminated land, geotechnics, public health, water supply, and engineering materials including cathodic protection.

Many of the Group projects involve construction and in addition we wish to expand our regeneration skills and workload.

Job description:

The Senior Geo-environmental Engineer will report to the Principal Geo Engineer and the Divisional Director, and will play a lead role in the development of the team and workload in regeneration.

Key elements of the role include:
1 Prepare investigation, sampling and testing strategies
2 Supervise graduates on:
· Desk studies and reconnaissance of sites.
· Preparation of site investigation contract documents
· Site supervision of investigations
· Monitoring of ground investigation installations
· Prepare basic interpretations of investigations, preparation of conceptual site models risk assessments
3 Define the scope and approach to quantitative risk assessments
4 Prepare design approaches, undertake calculations and prepare design drawings.
5 Prepare interpretative reports
6 Prepare options and validation reportsCandidate specification
Essential qualifications, experience, competencies and skills:
BSc Engineering Geology / Geology / Environmental Geology / Civil Engineering.
6yrs industry experience gained with a contractor or consultant
Experience and exposure to a range of geotechnical engineering design solutions in a range of project types, i.e., buildings and infrastructure.
Experience of quantitative risk assessment.
Ability to deliver projects successfully within set deadlines.
Computer-based analysis using off the shelf software.
Are able to positively advise other disciplines regarding aspects of their design as it impacts geotechnical engineering issues.
Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
Capable of leading a geo-environmental team.
Ability to mentor graduates.
Ability to write and speak in English fluently.
Desirable qualifications, experience, competencies and skills:
MSc Geotechnical Engineering / Hydrogeology / Environmental Science.
10yrs relevant experience with a range of backgrounds and types of work.
Experience of developing a team.
Experience of project management.
Experience of regeneration projects.
Analysis using Slope-W, DIPS, Swedge and the like.
Chartered Engineer.
Strong IT skills ideally with AutoCAD experience.
Ability to listen, consult and communicate proactively.
Ability to establish good relationship with staff and clients.
